EFVM for Vegetative Roofs

Electric Field Vector Mapping (EFVM): Detecting the source of a leak in the roof membrane of a green roof is difficult and expensive because of the water migration between the membrane, insulation and roof decking joints. Finding the leak could involve removing a majority of the greenroof. EFVM detects leaks to pin-point accuracy by utilizing a low-voltage electrical current between the non-conductive membrane surface and a conductive electrified mesh installed below the roof membrane. Breaches in the waterproof membrane will trigger electrical conduction, which shows our technicians the location of the leak. EFVM is the most reliable leak detection product in the industry to protect the building from potentially costly water damage and repair.

Heat Transfer Monitoring

Green roof monitoring systems include all required sensors, data loggers, communication equipment, and software. The data logger and sensors are mounted on the roof in plant beds and in the drainage system. Data is transmitted wirelessly to a computer located inside the building. Our systems will ensure that your green roofing system is meeting your expectations.

Stormwater Monitoring

Green roofs can reduce stormwater runoff, act as natural building insulation, and offer a more aesthetically pleasing environment. Our real-time monitoring systems can help assess the benefits of these green roofs.

Media Testing

Unfortunately there are many green roofs that have been installed with green roof medias that were not engineered correctly. Many of these green roofs may be failing because an inappropriate or non-existent media testing method was provided at the time of installation.

Currently, the most widely recognized standards for testing green roof media are those developed in Germany by the Landscaping and Landscape Development Research Society (FLL) and published in the Guideline for the Planning, Execution and Upkeep of Green Roof Sites. These standards designate specific test protocol to follow as well as criteria to meet based on green roof type. More recently, a U.S. task force has been established to develop green roof test methods and standards through the American Standard Testing Methods (ASTM) organization. Our Agricultural Analytical Services Laboratory partners employ the FLL test procedures on a routine basis and AST methods as they are available.

At Hanging Gardens we provide testing for both existing green roofing medias in needs of remediation & improvements and new green roof medias that need testing to ensure their viability. Please contact Hanging Gardens to ensure that your green roof has a media that will last the life of your roof.
